Bow Ties Rising

Bow ties are well over 300 years old. They originally were worn by a group of assassins in what is now modern day Croatia, just east of Italy. It was as a symbol of solidarity among the group. The fashion over the years migrated to Paris, center of all fashion, and has been a staple of menswear ever since.

The bow tie is if nothing else, a statement. It expresses an appreciation for individuality and tradition at the same time. The bow tie is both a symbol of eccentricity and conservative style. An interesting mix.

The bow tie look was once very mainstream, but in recent decades has, until recently, been relegated to physics professors, conservative columnists, and Louis Farrakhan.

No longer.

Bow ties are now increasing in popularity. They are beautiful in design. They are simple. They stay out of your way while you work. And they make any suit look better.

Interestingly, it is estimated that only about 5% of men who wear ties know how to tie a bow tie.
But with the coming of Youtube many more people have learned the art of tying the bow tie than in years past. It is the video democratization of the bow tie.

Does this mean the bow tie will ever become as common as the straight tie now that the secret is out?
Unlikely. The bow tie is still too different for the average tie wearer. It draws attention, which is the exact opposite of what many men prefer.

But if you don’t fear a statement, and enjoy a persnickety style, maybe the bow tie is just what you’ve been waiting for.

At BuyYourTies.com we have 100's of different bow ties in designs ranging from the plain formal solid black bow tie to stripe bow ties, pattern bow ties, paisley bow ties, solid bow ties and novelty bow ties.
